Radost, directed by Nejc Gazvoda and performed at MGL Ljubljana, is a poignant and deeply resonant exploration of the lives of individuals caught between the weight of their pasts and the uncertainty of their futures.
The story follows Meta, a 60-year-old hairdresser who, after losing her elderly mother, rents out the upper floor of her run-down house in Rožna Dolina to Maša, a 25-year-old juggling three meaningless jobs, and her younger sister Julija, a university freshman struggling to leave the house. Meta’s old friend Aljoša, a once-promising author of children’s poetry who returned from Berlin disillusioned, moves into the ironing room. Alongside them are other compelling characters like Polona, a self-proclaimed writer, exhausted young mother Ela, and Meta’s son Lukas.
Together, these characters drift through their lives burdened by a present filled with survival and devoid of inspiration, their past choices haunting them and their futures remaining undefined.
I had the privilege of composing music for Radost, collaborating with Saša Vipotnik – Neomi and Štras from Mrphy. Together, we crafted a soundtrack that mirrors the play’s emotional depth, providing a musical backdrop to its raw and intimate narrative.
If you haven’t seen Radost, I highly recommend experiencing this powerful drama at MGL. The story, paired with the music, offers an unforgettable exploration of humanity’s fragility and resilience.
