{"id":21,"date":"2013-12-21T22:36:19","date_gmt":"2013-12-21T22:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/igormatkovic.com\/?page_id=21"},"modified":"2025-01-30T21:46:03","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T21:46:03","slug":"bio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/igormatkovic.com\/?page_id=21","title":{"rendered":"Bio"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\">Born into a family where jazz records were played by his father, a classical trumpet player, Igor grew to become a prolific jazz trumpeter and composer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\">He completed a Masters degree at the University of Graz (Austria, in 2009). Traveling through Europe and America (particularly New York), he studied with celebrated trumpet players including Stjepko Gut, John Swana, Charles Toliver, Dave Rodgers and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\">In the early stages of his career he was involved in various projects as a trumpeter, keyboard player and as producer. As a session musician, he recorded over 30 albums in collaboration with different groups across a range of genres. He was a regular member of the European Movement Jazz Orchestra, releasing a record on the well-known Clean Feed\u2122 label in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\">He has performed at numerous festivals both at home and abroad. These include Cairo Jazz Festival (Egypt), Bundes Jazz Festival (Germany), Lent Festival (Slovenia), 50th Ljubljana Jazz Festival (Slovenia), Cerkno Jazz festival (Slovenia), Jazz Club Porgy and Bess (Austria), Brussels Goethe Institute (Belgium), Centro Cultural Vila Flor (Portugal), Teatro Gil Vincente (Portugal), Casa da Musica (Portugal), Centro Cultural de Belem (Portugal)(with Maria Joao), Palais des Beaux-Arts (Belgium), Konzerthaus (Germany) and Rome Goethe Institute (Italy), Jazz A Chelah Jazz Festival (Morocco).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\">In 2017 he performed at China &#8211; CEEC project founded by the Chinese Jazz Association performing in Schangzhou, China. In 2018 he was one of the mentors at the first China &#8211; CEEC Summer jazz camp at Jilin University of Arts in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\">His debut album &#8220;Motion In Two Dimensions&#8221;, recorded with pianist Marko \u010crn\u010dec, was released in 2010. The compilation of well-known jazz standards was described as a comprehensive approach, mastering the jazz tradition by international critics. His second album <strong>&#8220;Sonic Motion&#8221;<\/strong>, featuring his original compositions, was released in 2012, with Vladimir Kostadinovi\u010d on drums, Marko \u010crn\u010dec on piano\/Rhodes, and Robert Juki\u010d on bass. The Slovenian public received the album well and led Igor to explore a more atmospheric approach. Igor followed this approach on his album <strong>&#8220;State of Ku&#8221;<\/strong> which was released in 2017 by Radio &#8211; Television Slovenia. In 2019 he released fourth album called <strong>&#8220;Ephemeral Lake&#8221;<\/strong> featuring acclaimed Polish piano player Marcin Wasilewski (ECM Records).<br>As a co-leader of the band&nbsp;<strong>Ecliptic<\/strong>, he released two records,&nbsp;<strong>\u201cPath Of 01\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>\u201cTrash Society\u201d<\/strong>, and another with the band&nbsp;Ground Ritual, titled&nbsp;<strong>\u201cGround Ritual\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\">Lately COMPOSING MUSIC for TELEVISION is one of Igor&#8217;s new ways of engagement. In the last five years, he made opening title music for two TV series (Mamin dan &amp; Usodno vino) and music background for several seasons of TV series (Usodno vino &amp; Reka ljubezni). These two are the most popular series in Slovenia ever.
